Part-time Mental Health Counselor

The Counseling Center/Disability Services are committed to providing confidential, culturally competent and evidenced based counseling and disability services to students. Our philosophy encourages students’ empowerment, the development of individual strengths, greater independence, and self-advocacy. This position is focused on providing mental health counseling, crisis and educational services.  This position is part-time, 30 hours per week, 8 months per year, and eligible for limited benefits.

Duties:
- Provide personal counseling services to students.
- Complete paperwork, including documentation of clinical work.
- Attend to case management issues for counseling services.
- Respond and manage student crises.
- Participate in on-call rotation.
- Provide psychoeducational workshops.
- Participate in weekly clinical and business meetings.
- Meet requirements for professional counseling or psychology licensure and maintain licensure in good standing with the board.
- Seek continuing education opportunities to stay current on best practices in counseling and crisis management.
- Assist in maintaining Counseling Center database.
- Consult with outside professionals, when needed.

Qualifications:

Required
- Master’s degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field.
- Licensed (or licensed-eligible) to practice in the State of North Carolina.
- Minimum of one year counseling experience.
- Short-term/time-limited counseling experience.
- Strong computer/technology skills.

Preferred
- Experience in higher education.
- Crisis intervention experience.

Language Skills:
- Must have the ability to communicate professionally verbally and in written form.

Computer Skills:
- Position requires previous experience with PCs and working knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Microsoft Word, and Excel.
- Knowledge of e-text reproduction, scanning, and text-to-speech technology preferred.

Other Skills Required:
- Mental health crisis management experience preferred.

Certificates, licenses, registrations:
- Must be licensed (or licensed-eligible) in Psychology, Social Work or Professional Counseling or related field.
