Part-time Inclusive Preschool Teacher

Responsible for the appropriate implementation of MAP’s inclusive half day preschool. The part-time position is for 37 weeks at 25 hours per week for a maximum of 925 work hours per year.

Duties:
- Provide appropriate weekly lessons for children who are typically developing ages three to five and implement in a small classroom setting.
- Create and implement modifications to lessons and activities based on the needs of the children with autism included in the classroom to allow maximum participation for all.
- Be familiar with the social and group treatment plan goals for the children with autism in the classroom and arrange activities to allow targeting of these goals
- Be actively engaged with all children in the classroom during preschool hours and model professional behavior and developmentally appropriate practice within the classroom for all student workers and practicum students.
- Provide a teaching structure that helps prepare children of kindergarten age and their parents to become “kindergarten ready” within a developmentally appropriate structure.
- Will be responsible for implementing the preschool curriculums, including but not limited to: Preschool Letterland, Conscious Discipline, and Learning Without Tears.
- Meet regularly with parents of children who are typically developing (2-3 times per year) with the MAP Director, if needed.
- Provide information to MAP Staff on areas of need for the children with autism included in the classroom and assist in developing modifications as necessary.
- Work cohesively with Meredith College student assistants/staff and students working in the preschool classroom for credit.
- Meet regularly with the MAP Director, Associate Director, and/or Department Head of Psychology and Social Work and bring issues and concerns to them immediately.
- Work collaboratively with MAP BCBAs and students who are responsible for the writing and implementation of behavior plans, treatment plan goals, and modifications for the children with autism included in the preschool setting.
- Post weekly lessons and themes of the preschool that are visible to parents at drop-off and pick-up or on Explorer’s facebook page (following confidentiality requirements).
- Work with the MAP staff and Psychology and Social Work Department members on plans to apply for NAEYC accreditation.
- Arrive at 8:00am for classroom set up and remain until 1:00pm for clean-up. Preschool will operate from the end of August through the end of May. The teacher will start work when hired and continue until one week after for clean-up of the classroom. The preschool is closed during December break and for a few other college days off where the teacher is not paid. There are also a few paid teacher work days incorporated throughout the year. The part-time position is for 37 weeks at 25 hours per week for a maximum of 925 work hours.
- Respond appropriately to student and parent questions.
- The Explorer’s Inclusive preschool teacher cannot enroll nor teach any direct family members/children.
- Other duties as assigned by MAP Director or Department Head of Psychology and Social Work.

Qualifications:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Hold an associate’s degree or a baccalaureate degree in child development or related field of work.
- Have a clear understanding of typical child development and milestones between the ages of 3-5.
- Have a clear understanding of how to differentiate and modify instruction to meet the needs of varying abilities within a group setting.
- Have at least one year of experience leading a group (3 or more) of children in a preschool setting.
- Have no significant visual or hearing impairments with reasonable accommodation that prevent teacher from caring for, instructing and providing a safe environment for children.
- Be able to run to or after children and lift up to 40 pounds.

BENEFICIAL QUALIFICATIONS
- Hold an active teaching licensure in birth through kindergarten or kindergarten through elementary school.
