The Network/Telecommunications Specialist is responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, and support of Meredith’s network and telecommunications systems. This role ensures reliable connectivity, voice communication services, and secure network operations by monitoring infrastructure, troubleshooting issues, and implementing system improvements. The specialist collaborates with IT teams, vendors, and end users to maintain high availability and performance of network and voice systems.
Duties:
- Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot network infrastructure including switches, routers, wireless systems, and telecommunications equipment.
- Manage and support voice communication systems such as Fortivoice.
- Monitor network and telecommunications systems to ensure optimal performance, availability, and security.
- Diagnose and resolve connectivity, voice, and data communication issues in a timely manner.
- Coordinate with telecommunications carriers and vendors to resolve service issues and manage service requests.
- Assist with network services including VLANs, DHCP, DNS, VPNs, and firewall policies.
- Maintain documentation for network topology, telecommunications systems, and configuration changes.
- Assist with planning, implementing, and upgrading network and telecommunications infrastructure.
- Ensure systems follow organizational security standards and best practices.
- Provide technical support and guidance to end users and IT staff regarding network and telecommunications services.
- Participate in system testing, disaster recovery planning, and continuity procedures.
Skills Needed:
- Ability to utilize testing equipment and hand tools such as ohmmeters, cable/fiber testers, telecommunications test sets and electric drills.
- Ability to run and interpret the output of troubleshooting commands.
- Ability to read the design and layout telecommunication systems.
- Ability work independently with minimal supervision. Ability to plan, organize and prioritize workflow effectively.
- Ability to read network diagrams.
- Strong understanding of call flows, ring groups and auto attendants.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
Key interfaces:
- Works with other members of the Technology Services staff, end users and vendors.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Relevant Bachelor’s Degree or certifications.
- 2 years’ experience with networking/LAN and VMWare.
- 3 years’ experience deploying and managing voice systems.
- Experience with network monitoring tools and telecommunications management systems.
Working conditions & physical demands:
- General office setting with moderate noise level.
- Will frequently work outdoors and exposed to weather conditions.
- Will frequently operate electronic and telecommunications equipment.
