Responsible for supervising housekeeping staff in the completion of their duties; may also perform housekeeping functions including cleaning residence halls, offices, classrooms and/or public areas and/or project work, such as general floor maintenance. Position is classified as essential personnel under college policy and is subject to college and department policies regarding essential personnel. Performs essential duties related to facilities work as identified by management during inclement weather, emergency situations, or as campus needs dictate. This position is for the PM shift (2:00pm - 10:30pm).
Duties:
- Provides hands-on training of employees in the effective cleaning of their assigned areas; includes cleaning techniques, proper use of equipment and chemicals.
- Makes work assignments for employees under their supervision.
- Conducts routine inspects of areas for employees supervised.
- Maintains electronic attendance records for employees.
- Provides direction and guidance to employees regarding the performance of their job duties. Reports disciplinary infractions to Housekeeping Manager.
- Issues keys, cleaning equipment, and chemicals and ensures they are used and stored properly.
- Monitors inventory supplies to ensure supply will meet needs; reports supply needs to Housekeeping Manager or Expeditor.
- Responsible for actively participating in or conducting safety training.
- Fills in for workers under their supervision when understaffed; performs duties as necessary.
- Duties may include inclement weather safety responsibilities, including the removal of snow, ice and/or branches, and other related responsibilities as necessary due to inclement weather.
- Duties may include activities related to preparation or clean-up during emergency situations.
- May be required to work during campus closures.
- Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor or management.
Qualifications:
Skills Needed:
- General knowledge of housekeeping and floor maintenance equipment, products and techniques; equipment could include light vacuum, heavy vacuum, buffing machine, burnisher, carpet retriever, automatic scrubber, hand truck, pressure washer, carpet shampooer, carpet extractor, wet vacuum, automatic carpet cleaner, or other equipment as indicated.
- Ability to operate cleaning and floor maintenance equipment.
- General supervisory capability; must have good communications skills (written, oral and listening), good interpersonal skills, must be able to work with teams, be able to train, direct and develop staff in cleaning of campus facilities.
- Must be able to effectively communicate, verbally and in writing, with supervisor, coworkers, customers and others.

- Reports to Housekeeping Manager.
Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or the equivalent.
- Two years experience in related field.
- Prior supervisory experience preferred.
- Must be able to work as part of a team.
- Must respect confidentiality when cleaning offices.
Working conditions & physical demands:
- Works in moderate noise all around campus, indoor and outdoor.
- Frequent standing, walking, and operating cleaning equipment.
- Often lifts 10-100 lbs objects with lifts or other assistance.
- May be required to work during periods of inclement weather.
- May be required to work weekends occasionally.
