Position is responsible for providing technical support, skills and labor towards the routine care and maintenance of a clean, beautiful and safe campus environment. Works in concert with the grounds team to maintain and enhance the function and aesthetics of the campus grounds. Position is classified as essential personnel under college policy and is subject to college and department policies regarding essential personnel. Performs essential duties as identified by management and incident response team related to inclement or hazardous weather events.

Duties:
- Leads in the operation, maintenance and repair of campus irrigation systems and pump stations.
- Operates heavy equipment including zero turn mowers, articulating tractor, skid steer tractor, farm tractor, and large area mowers in the routine completion grounds maintenance tasks.
- Routinely clears sidewalks, entrances, courtyards, campus roads and parking lots of debris using tractor with hydraulic high-powered blower.
- Performs routine lawn and landscape maintenance including mowing edging, weeding, tree and shrub pruning
- Routinely clears of sidewalks, entrances, courtyards, campus roads and parking lots using tractor with hydraulic high-powered blower.
- Routinely collects and properly disposes of litter, trash, organic debris and recyclables in assigned areas.
- Assists in the routine maintenance of athletic fields and facilities.
- Assists in the repair of brick sidewalks, road signs, parking lots and campus roads surfaces.
- Performs snow and storm related campus clean up, removing debris and snow from sidewalks, parking lots, and building entrances to ensure safe conditions for students, faculty and staff.
- Duties may include activities related to preparation or clean-up during emergency situations.
- May be required to work during campus closures.
- Performs other related duties as necessary or as assigned by supervisor.

Skills Needed:
- Must be able to effectively communicate, verbally and in writing, with supervisor, coworkers, customers and others.
- Must be highly skilled in the operation of grounds powered equipment and heavy machinery including the safe operation of: skid steer, tractor, articulating tractor, backhoe, hydraulic leaf blower reel mower, zero turn mower, snow broom and snow plow.
- Must be highly skilled in the performance of grounds maintenance tasks such as mowing, edging, string-trimming, hedge-trimming, leaf and trash removal.
- Must have knowledge of irrigation system repair and installation.
- Must be highly skilled in the repair and maintenance of irrigation pump stations, controllers, solenoid valves and sprinkler heads.

Key Interfaces:
- Will work closely with Grounds Supervisor and other Grounds Staff.

Education, Experience, Certifications:
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Must have irrigation repair and installation experience.
- Grounds and landscape maintenance experience is required.
- Valid NC Driver's License and clear driving history is required.

Working conditions & physical demands:
- The nature of the working environment may produce moderate levels of stress and involves discomfort and/or risk such as operating gas-powered equipment, heavy machinery and dangerous cutting equipment.
- Workers are subject to environmental discomfort such as frequent exposure to loud noises, and/or extremes of heat or cold.
- The work frequently requires wearing protective gear that may be uncomfortable.
- Must be able to perform strenuous work that involves frequent exertion and/or periods of continuous machine operation.
- Frequent lifting of objects over 50 pounds. Occasional lifting of heavy objects weighing 75 pounds or more is required.
- Frequent standing and operating machinery.
- May be required to work during periods of inclement weather.
