The Production Supervisor is a creative professional responsible for working with faculty, staff, students, volunteers, and community members who are involved with or attending Meredith College events.
This position provides on-site management for a wide variety of events and oversees assigned event components ensuring that all clients and patrons have a positive experience. The Production Supervisor demonstrates a high level of creative talent and expertise in all aspects of event planning, management, design, and implementation and possesses special expertise in technical theater and audio visual production.
Duties:
- Consults with internal offices and external clients on their venue usage needs and advises on ways to enhance content to meet event goals.
- Serves as technical director for major speakers, admissions events, and other designated events sponsored by Meredith College or held on the campus.
- Resolves problems and makes independent and timely decisions during live events (or assigned aspects of live events) related to event flow, sound or lighting design, house management and patron interactions; helping to ensure that the integrity of the event, as well as the mission and image of the College are upheld at all times.
- Provides on-site supervision and support for a variety of events, as assigned by the director of events, including performances, lectures, convocations, departmental events, book signings, weddings, and athletic events.
- Upholds policies and implements best practices related to event, venue and house management to ensure the safety of staff members, students, faculty, and the general public.
- Collects revenue, attendance and other data related to operations and events; assists in reporting and assessment.
- Monitors and assists with the load-in and load-out of campus productions and events, co-sponsored events, and facility rentals.
- Coordinates and plans multiple projects with a variety of timelines.
- Researches and makes recommendations for the purchasing of supplies; performs other related responsibilities and duties as assigned.
- Has availability on nights and weekends.
Qualifications:
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Must be comfortable working at heights in excess of twenty (20) feet.
- Must have a full range of color vision because of various safety factors.
- Must be able to lift and carry 50 to 80 pounds frequently and up to 100+ pounds occasionally.
- Must be able to climb ladders, stairs, ramps, etc.
- Must be able to kneel, crouch, bend at waist, crawl, turn/twist, and work in cramped working quarters.
- Must be able to work in extreme temperatures and high noise levels.
- Must have the necessary manual dexterity to operate tools and theatrical equipment.
- Must be capable of frequently pulling and pushing fifty (50) pounds.
- Must be able to work within the physical limitation of the ladders, scaffolding, and man lifts used by the Department of Meredith Events.
- Must be able able to drive the truck or the van relating to event production tasks. NC driver license and clear driving history is required.
This position requires that the safety of others be the highest priority toward the fulfillment of this role. This includes ensuring the safety of not only other staff members, but students, faculty, and the general public. The consequences of error in this position are serious ranging from events and performances being affected; to poor public relations, potential injury or worse. This individual must at all times use good judgment when performing duties associated with the position with no room for error. Precision and accuracy in operating all equipment at specified standards is critical. The individual in this position must be able to work independently with occasional supervision.
This position works with a variety of peers and clients including faculty, staff, students, volunteers, and members of the general public who are involved with or attending on-campus events and/or productions. The ability to handle conflict and work toward its resolution in a professional manner while representing the college is essential.
Education and Experience:
- Experience with Theatrical Lighting, Sound, Video, Rigging, and Facility Management, as well as supervision of other employees.
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in theater arts, and demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform work described. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Ability and willingness to be trained in the following preferred qualifications if the candidate does not already possess:
- Preferred skills include, but are not limited to, a general knowledge of concert, theatrical, and event lighting, rigging, sound, video, and facility management including house management, ticketing, and patron management. Candidate should have working knowledge and experience with event and production facility building operations.
- Should be able to setup, troubleshoot, and program various theatrical lighting and sound consoles including, but not limited to, ETC Ion, Express, and Smartfade consoles as well as Unison Architectural Controls, Yamaha audio digital consoles, and a variety of analog small format mixing consoles. Experience with audio distribution, system configuration, and a variety of audio processing equipment is also required. Candidate should have a working knowledge of entertainment power distribution systems including low voltage control systems and networks. Operation of manual counterweight and motorized rigging and lifting systems, as well as inspection and maintenance of listed systems is also required.
- A working knowledge of NFPA 70 and NFPA 70E electrical codes and the ability to troubleshoot and repair electronics. Should have a working knowledge of both PC & MAC hardware platforms, and operating systems. Experience using Vectorworks, LightWright, Keynote, and Microsoft Office Suite with an emphasis on PowerPoint. Candidate experience with patron management systems and ticketing software is preferred. The position requires the ability to plan and execute multiple projects while continuing to complete all regular tasks.
