Dietetic Internship Site Preceptor for Food Service Management and Medical Nutrition Therapy – Cape Fear Medical Center

The Dietetic Internship program is housed in the department of Nutrition, Health and Human Performance that resides in the School of Education, Health and Human Sciences. As a post-graduate certificate program the DI program also is under the auspices of the John E. Weems Graduate School. This position worksite is located at the Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville, NC with the expectation of attending monthly meetings at the Meredith campus in Raleigh, NC.

Duties:
- Precept dietetic interns on a rotating schedule (four interns at a time in three cohorts) in one designated hospital location in Food Service Management and Medical Nutrition Therapy/Clinical Nutrition.
- Preceptor will work with the Food Service Director and Clinical Nutrition Manager at the hospital in scheduling students.
- Preceptor is expected to fulfill any nutrition duties within hospital as needed.
- Meet with the interns on a regular basis, both formally and informally.
- Evaluate each intern’s progress and provide timely formative and summative feedback to the intern.
- Observe the intern’s professional style and provide feedback to the intern.
- Identify and facilitate learning activities that support the attainment of competencies/learning outcomes.
- Assist the interns in setting appropriate goals and a schedule for completion of competencies during the rotation.
- Support and counsel interns.
- Complete required supervised practice documentation in a timely manner.
- Communicate each intern’s progress and any issues regarding the interns’ supervised practice experience in general to the Meredith College Dietetic Internship Director and/or Dietetic Internship Coordinator.
- Model evidence-based practice, professional behavior, time management, and ethical practice.
- Provide assistance and supervision of other dietetic interns as needed.
- Assist DI Director and DI Coordinator with FNG601 and FNG605 classes as needed.
- Attend staff meetings at hospital and college.
- Perform other miscellaneous tasks within the graduate office as identified by the Dietetic Internship Director, Department Head and/or Dean.

Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree and Registered Dietitian. At least three years of clinical nutrition experience and one year of food service management.
- Site preceptor for Food Service and Medical Nutrition Therapy/Clinical Nutrition for dietetic interns in supervised practice.
- The successful candidate is an experienced dietetics professional who has mastered their profession and is dedicated to demonstrating excellence in the profession.
- The successful candidate will provide evidence of initiative, maturity, and professionalism, attention to detail, excellent organizational ability, time management and interpersonal skills, which include high-quality oral and written communication skills.
- The successful candidate will function in several roles, including guide, role model, , counselor, coach, resource and colleague.
- Strong computer skills-including familiarity with Microsoft Office; Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Experience in learning management systems and electronic medical records preferred.
- Experience in teaching/classroom management in an online setting preferred.
