Clinical Educator in Dietetics for Medical Nutrition Therapy and Food Service Management

The Clinical Educator in Dietetics for Medical Nutrition Therapy and Food Service Management is a full-time, 12 month instructor of professional practice.  

Duties:

- Clinical educator will work in designated Triangle area hospital location(s) and on the Meredith College campus each week.
- Precept dietetic graduate students on a rotating schedule (in two or three cohorts) in one designated hospital location in Medical Nutrition Therapy/Clinical Nutrition and Food Service Management.
- Develop and lead campus-based clinical simulations and other alternate learning experiences in the Simulation Lab.
- Collaborate with the Program Director, hospital managers, and other community partners to plan and implement students’ schedules.
- Fulfill any nutrition competencies as required by the hospital.
- Educate students one-on-one or in small groups, both formally and informally.
- Evaluate each student's progress and provide timely formative feedback to students on strengths and opportunities for growth regarding their provision of Medical Nutrition Therapy and overall professionalism.
- Identify and facilitate learning activities that support the attainment of competencies/learning outcomes.
- Assist the students in setting appropriate goals and a schedule for completing competencies during the rotation.
- Complete required supervised practice documentation in a timely manner.
- Collaborate regularly with the Program Director regarding student performance.
- Provide assistance and supervision of other Meredith College students as needed.
- Assist the Program Director with the development of programmatic material and teaching courses as needed.
- Attend staff meetings at the hospital and college.
- Perform other miscellaneous tasks within the graduate office as identified by the Program Director, Department Head, and/or Dean.
- Participate in the application review and selection process for program candidates.
- Collect and assess data to meet ACEND accreditation requirements.
- Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Model evidence-based practice, professional behavior, time management, and ethical practice.

Qualifications:

- Master’s degree in Nutrition Sciences/Dietetics or Public Health. Credentialed by CDR as an active Registered Dietitian. At least three years of clinical nutrition experience and one year of food service management.
- Clinical educator for Medical Nutrition Therapy/Clinical Nutrition and food service for dietetic students in supervised practice.
- The successful candidate is an experienced dietetics professional who demonstrates mastery of core competencies in nutrition/dietetics and is dedicated to demonstrating excellence in the profession.
- The successful candidate will provide evidence of initiative, maturity, professionalism, attention to detail, excellent organizational ability, time management, and interpersonal skills, which include high-quality oral and written communication skills.
- The successful candidate will function in multiple roles, including educator, supervisor, preceptor, role model, mentor, coach, and resource.
- Strong computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Experience in or willingness to learn campus learning management systems, electronic medical records, and simulation technology is preferred.
- Experience in teaching/classroom management preferred.
