The Associate Director of Student Success provides leadership and direct student support within the Student Success Center, advancing a student-centered approach to academic advising, success coaching, retention, persistence, and timely degree completion. The position provides comprehensive academic advising and success coaching while developing personalized support strategies that respond to students’ individual goals, needs, strengths, and barriers to success.

The Associate Director leads proactive retention and academic recovery efforts, including early outreach, intervention, success planning, and programs designed to promote student engagement and academic progress. The position serves as a senior resource to Student Success Advisors and collaborates with faculty mentors, academic departments, and campus partners to address complex student needs and strengthen coordinated pathways to student success.

As a member of the Student Success Center leadership team, the Associate Director contributes to strategic planning, student success initiatives, assessment, and continuous improvement while helping advance an effective, student-centered model of advising, coaching, and retention support.

The Associate Director reports directly to the Director of Student Success and contributes to the strategic direction, assessment, and continuous improvement of the Student Success Center.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Student Success, Advising & Coaching
- Provide comprehensive academic advising and success coaching to an assigned caseload of students from entry through graduation.
- Develop personalized support strategies that address individual student goals, needs, strengths, and barriers to academic success.
- Support students with academic planning, degree progression, course selection, registration, goal setting, major exploration, and graduation planning.
- Promote student development, self-advocacy, academic ownership, and informed decision-making.

Retention, Outreach & Academic Recovery
- Develop and implement proactive strategies that promote student engagement, academic progress, persistence, and degree completion.
- Conduct outreach and coordinate timely interventions for students experiencing academic difficulty, disengagement, or other barriers to success.
- Develop personalized success plans, facilitate success strategy meetings, and support students participating in academic recovery initiatives.
- Monitor student progress and adjust support strategies as appropriate.

Student Success Programs & Initiatives
- Develop, coordinate, and facilitate student success workshops, programs, and educational initiatives that address identified student needs.
- Lead designated initiatives related to academic success, student engagement, transition, retention, persistence, and student development.
- Collaborate with campus departments and subject-matter experts to develop and deliver effective student success programming.

Collaboration & Student Advocacy
- Serve as a senior resource and collaborative partner to Student Success Advisors regarding complex student situations, retention strategies, and academic recovery.
- Collaborate with faculty mentors, academic departments, and campus partners to support student progress and persistence.
- Establish effective communication and referral pathways and advocate for students navigating academic and institutional processes.

Assessment, Technology & Continuous Improvement
- Use student success, advising, retention, and engagement data to identify student needs and inform interventions, programs, and advising practices.
- Contribute to assessment, reporting, and continuous improvement efforts in collaboration with the Director and Student Success Operations, Systems & Assessment Coordinator.
- Utilize advising, degree audit, early alert, student information, and student success technologies while maintaining accurate and timely student documentation.

Strategic Leadership & Professional Responsibilities
- Serve as a member of the Student Success Center leadership team and contribute to the Center's strategic direction, priorities, policies, and service standards.
- Lead designated projects and initiatives and collaborate with the Director and Associate Director of Student Success & Learning Center on center-wide efforts.
- Maintain current knowledge of academic advising, student development, retention, and student success practices.
- Participate in professional development and institutional initiatives and perform other duties as assigned in support of the mission of the Student Success Center.

Minimum Required Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in higher education, student affairs, counseling, academic advising, education, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in higher education, with experience in academic advising, student success, retention, student development, or a related area.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, academic departments, and campus partners.
- Commitment to proactive, student-centered approaches that support student persistence, academic achievement, and degree completion.

Preferred Qualifications:
- 5 years of progressive experience in higher education with experience in academic advising, student success, retention, or related areas.
- Experience with EAB Navigate 360 or a comparable student success, advising, or early-alert platform.
- Experience developing and implementing personalized success plans, academic recovery initiatives, early interventions, or retention strategies.
- Experience leading student success workshops, programs, or campus-wide initiatives.
- Experience working with degree audit, student information, advising, early-alert, and other student success technologies.
- Experience using assessment and student success data to evaluate programs and improve services.
- Experience supporting students from diverse backgrounds and with varying academic, personal, and institutional needs.
- Knowledge of current practices and trends in academic advising, student development, retention, and college student success.
