Administers the determination of financial aid awards for individual students. Manages the various sources of financial aid for students.
Duties:
- Counsels students and their families on how to pay for college and provide assistance with the financial assistance process.
- Performs verification of information reported on the Free Application of Federal Student Assistance (FAFSA).
- Supervises the Information Specialists and Office Manager and assist with the management of the office in the absence of the director.
- Monitors withdrawals, leaves of absences, and registration add/drop. Performs the Return to Title IV calculations when needed. Determines eligibility for credit balance refunds.
- Supervises the administration of the Federal Work Study program.
- Maintain for the office the State of North Carolina Financial Aid programs notably NC Need Based Scholarship program, NC Teaching Fellows and NC Forgivable Education Loans for Service program.
- Assists with the selection of the endowed and outside scholarship selection process.
- Assists the director with projects as needed.
Skills Needed:
- Experience working with Microsoft Office, including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint Excel and the ability to work with mainframe database systems.
- Experienced in providing customer service.
- Proficient written and oral communications skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
Key interfaces:
- Interaction with continuing students, prospective students, faculty and staff of the college.
- Interaction with Federal and State officials.
- Interaction with student loan agencies.
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree required, master degree preferred.
- Experience working with tax forms highly preferred.
- Experience in a college financial aid setting preferred.
- At least 5 years in financial aid office or comparable experience in a federal or educational setting.
Working conditions & physical demands:
- General office setting with moderate noise level.
