Assistant Housekeeping Shift Supervisor (2nd Shift)

Responsible for cleaning residence halls, offices, classrooms and/or public areas. Project work, such as general floor maintenance may be included. Supervises assigned teams. Serves as supervisor during absence of Shift Supervisor. Position is classified as essential personnel under college policy and is subject to college and department policies regarding essential personnel. Performs essential duties related to facilities work as identified by management during inclement weather, emergency situations, or as campus needs dictate.

This position is second shift. Shift is 2:00 pm to 10:30 pm, Mon - Thurs, and 12:00 pm to 8:30 pm on Friday (Friday hours are subject to change based on the needs of the College), weekends as necessary.  Summer hours are approved annually (may change to 12:00 pm - 8:30 pm).

Duties:
- Supervises assigned teams. Serves as supervisor when Shift Supervisor is unavailable. Provides supervision and direction to other housekeeping staff. Works with supervisor to resolve issues.
- Provides feedback to supervisor regarding performance of housekeepers.
- Conducts quality assurance inspections as requested and in the absence of the supervisor.
- Provides hands-on training of employees in the effective cleaning of their assigned areas; includes cleaning techniques, proper use of equipment and chemicals.
- Reports unsafe practices and equipment use to supervisor or manager.
- Reports building maintenance issues to supervisor.
- Works along side team assigned to clean buildings as assigned by supervisor.
- Performs floor care, including routine mopping (dry and damp), sweeping and vacuuming. Reports areas requiring higher levels of maintenance.
- Cleans walls, does the dusting (high and low) as well as the vacuuming and spotting carpets.
- Empties trash containers daily or as necessary / moves trash.
- Cleans mirrors, glass doors and windows as necessary.
- Conducts routine restroom, office and/or classroom cleaning using specific procedures. Cleans sinks, commodes/urinals as necessary.
- Duties include activities related to preparation or clean-up for special events or cyclical events.
- Duties include inclement weather safety responsibilities, including the removal of snow, ice and/or branches, and other related responsibilities as necessary due to inclement weather.
- Duties include activities related to preparation or clean-up during emergency situations.
- May be required to work during campus closures.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor or management.

Skills Needed:
- Ability to operate cleaning equipment.
- Ability to operate floor maintenance equipment.
- Ability to work with and train staff in approved manner.
- Must have good communication skills and ability to interact well with other team members.
- Must be able to effectively communicate, verbally and in writing, with supervisor, coworkers, customers and others.

Key Interfaces:
- Reports to Shift Supervisor.

Education & Experience:
- Minimum of 6 months prior janitorial experience.
- Must be able to work as part of a team.
- Must respect confidentiality when cleaning offices.
- Prior supervisory experience preferred.

Working conditions & physical demands:
- Works in moderate noise all around campus, indoor and outdoor.
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, use of repetitive motions and operating cleaning equipment.
- Often lifts 10-50 lbs objects.
- May be required to work during periods of inclement weather.
- May be required to work weekends.
