The Athletics Director reports to the Vice-President for College Programs and leads the operation of all intercollegiate athletics programs.

Duties:

College related duties:
- Understand and appreciate the mission of the college and the philosophy of NCAA Division III athletics.
- Provide a clear vision of the role and mission of the athletics program that supports the college’s overall mission and strategic plan.
- Serve on the College Programs Leadership Team.
- Collaborate with the Offices of Admissions and Financial Aid to develop the best plan for recruiting student-athletes who can manage the demands of a rigorous academic program and succeed in a NCAA DIII athletics program.
- Establish an environment that promotes student success and integrates athletics into the broader educational mission of the college while maintaining high standards of performance and ethical conduct.
- Establish strong working relationships with the faculty and College Programs staff to promote academic success, student-athlete well-being, and career preparation.
- Manage the athletic department with a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion consistent with the college’s strategies to foster an inclusive campus culture.
- Work with the Office of Institutional Advancement to implement a plan for effective athletics fundraising and cultivation of student-athlete alumnae relations. 
- Coordinate with the Chair of the Nutrition, Health, and Human Performance (NHHP) department the supervision and scheduling of all PE and athletic facilities.
- Serve as the faculty instructor of record for the PED 470 intercollegiate athletics activity course.
- Submit the Meredith College Athletics Annual Report and the program’s annual Continuous Improvement Report (CIR).

Department duties:
- Develop a strategic plan for the athletics department that guides the effective operation of the overall program in accordance with the College- wide strategic plan.
- Review and provide regular updates to the student-athlete handbook and staff policy and procedure manual.
- Attend AD Council meetings for the USA South Athletic Conference
- Oversee a multi-faceted athletics budget
- Recruit, hire, mentor, and retain coaches and support staff that practice a positive team culture of respect, open communication, and enthusiasm for the department and campus community.
- Serve as the direct report for head coaches and athletics administrative staff
- Complete annual staff performance evaluations for direct reports and support suggested areas of improvement through professional development opportunities.
- Develop and monitor a maintenance plan for regular inspections and updates on current athletics facilities and provide the college administration guidance and input on future facility needs.
- Oversee the management of the Meredith College Athletics Sports Medicine program.
- Confer with the Director of the Office of Campus Events in all matters of facility scheduling for sports camps, local athletic group facility rentals, and non-athletic on-campus and off-campus groups.
- Collaborate with the Marketing Department to ensure adequate promotion of Meredith Athletics.
- Advise and represent the department in the administration of the annual Meredith College Golf Classic.
- Serve as an ex-officio member of the Meredith Athletics Hall of Fame and its selection committee.
- Attend and assist with the organization and programming included in the annual Halo Awards Ceremony and honor society induction for student-athletes.
- Provide and prioritize recommendations for Avenging Angels Club projects.
- Attend intercollegiate athletic contests as necessary.

NCAA Compliance responsibilities:
- Oversee and ensure the department’s compliance/adherence to all NCAA, USA South Athletic Conference and Meredith College policies and procedures.
- Assign and oversee the athletics program NCAA DEI designee.
- Complete the annual NCAA Financial Expense Report
- Serve as the voting delegate for the annual NCAA Convention.
- Meet regularly with the college President and Athletic Direct Report to ensure complete oversight of the athletic department

Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in education, sport management, athletic administration or related field required.
- Extensive experience in college athletics including at the senior management level.
- Demonstrated record of successful athletic administrative experience.
- Working knowledge of the NCAA and the ability to recognize issues within DIII that impact Meredith College.
- Commitment to excellence in academics and athletics.
- Experience in facilities oversight and planning, budget management and strategic planning.
- Proven leadership and management skills based in the department’s four core values of integrity, respect, responsibility and discipline.
- Strong judgement in decision-making and character assessment when recruiting and hiring future team/staff members.
- Ability to develop a cooperative and supportive work environment based on relationship-building skills and open communication.
- Experience partnering with Offices of Institutional Advancement and Alumnae Relations.
- Readiness to embrace the traditions of Meredith College and the history of Meredith Athletics.
