The Admission Counselor is a member of the undergraduate admission team and a communicator of the value of a Meredith education. This position is primarily responsible for identifying, recruiting, and selecting prospective students within an assigned recruitment territory to achieve the College’s mission and enrollment goals.
Duties:
- Develop and manage an effective plan for recruiting and enrolling new students from the assigned territory and schools.
- Communicate the value of the College’s educational experience to a variety of constituents including prospective students, parents, school and college counselors, and other members of the College and external community.
- Plan and complete recruitment visits to high schools and/or community colleges, attend college fairs, area receptions, and events to identify prospective students who demonstrate potential for success at the College.
- Conduct campus visit interviews, admission presentations, and tours for on-campus visitors.
- Facilitate the application and admission process (including financial aid information) with students, parents, and high school counselors including resolution of problems that may arise during the process.
- Provide and track a high volume of intentional follow up with students and parents.
- Represent the Office of Admissions in a public speaking capacity on and off-campus.
- Initiate, plan, and execute special projects in conjunction with the goals and objectives of the office and the business of the College, including collaboration with campus partners for recruitment focus areas.
- Read applications for admission, evaluate credentials, and render admission decisions.
- Maintain a high level of knowledge of College information, organization, opportunities, and policies.
- Serve on committees as assigned.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Ability to communicate effectively in both spoken and written English.
- Ability to listen well and evaluate a prospective student’s potential for success at Meredith.
- Ability to understand College procedures and curricular offerings and be able to relate this information effectively to prospective students and families.
- Must be able to understand and explain financial aid programs and eligibility criteria, and use discernment regarding appropriate next steps as they may apply to admitted students and families.
- Ability to travel to secondary schools and community colleges.
- Ability to maintain an effective applicant tracking system.
- Ability to plan and organize special events and activities.
Key interfaces:
- Interacts with prospective students, parents, high school teachers, school and college counselors, and members of the Meredith community.
- Will work with other members of the Admissions Office staff and the larger Meredith community.
Education & Experience:
-Bachelor’s degree required.
-Valid NC Driver’s license and clear driving history are required.
Working conditions & physical demands:
- General office setting with moderate noise level.
- Frequent travel is required.
- Evening and weekend work required.
